A Note About Magic: the Gathering

Kat pointed out that a few things I said about Magic in my latest story (Bill and Duncan http://www.bransomtx.com/billduncan.html) didn't make much sense to him, though he could figure it out from the context. Therefore, I thought I'd give a (very) brief explanation, so you can at least have a hazy understanding of what I mean.

Magic is played with special cards. They print new sets of cards 3 or 4 times a year. Some of the cards have been in print since the game began. Others are retired. ...

Every year about this time, the kids end up making new friends. I’m going to use this thread to introduce them, which will keep them separate from boys they’ve known for a while, but I’ve not yet mentioned.

I doubt Van will meet any new friends at school, because BCA is so small, he’ll probably have all the same kids in his class. On the other hand, because of the way they do youth sports (the kids are grouped in two-year sets), about half his team will be new.

The twins are ...

Let me review a few relationships first. For the record, I’m an only child. My parents had me and divorced. I’m pretty open as to whom I accept as relatives. On my mom’s side, I have one half-sister, Danielle, and one step-sister, Rhonda. Danielle had two sons, both of whom I adopted, so she has no kids anymore.

On Dad’s side, I have a half-sister, Amanda, and three step-brothers by three different mom’s (not counting Noah), Matt, Jason, and Aaron. Amanda is married, but ...

I’ve known Barrett pretty much all his life - literally, since his mom was pregnant with him when I first met her, which was in late 1994. Gina already had two daughters, who were about 4 and 5 years older than Barrett.

Gina, Barrett’s mom, was part of the role-playing group in which I became involved at that time. She’d actually met his dad, Clay, through role-playing, but Clay had gradually moved out of it. Still, Gina was big into gaming and she became a long-term regular in ...

I promised Skater a little more information on Zack and his punishment on Friday night, so here's the first part.

I've known Brian Franklin, Zack's dad, since he was 18. I met him in April 93, about 6 months before Zack was born. I met Zack a number of times when he was tiny. (And Brian and I are a story to ourselves, into which we'll go at another time). Brian lived in another city at that time, and would visit me occasionally, so I didn't see Zack all the time.

Name Game

I have previously mentioned Steve Stiller in this forum. However, I did it under different names. When I use a name on this site or for stories, htere are a couple of main criteria. First, I have to be able to make the connection when I hear it. Therefore, if I knew someone named Brown, I might use Green for their last name here. It could be a minor difference in spelling, like Green might become Greene, but it has to be a little different, but close enough for me to know ...

It was the end of August, right after the start of school this year (2008) when they came into. I thought they were brothers at first: longish, dark brown hair, blue eyes, similar features. The man looked about 20, the boy 11 or 12. I was right on the boy, about 10 year off on the man.

Dean Marchant and his son, Doug, had been living in Arizona. His wife had died a bit before, so it was just the two of them, and they were close. They both love comics and gaming.

I fell asleep last night before I could finish this, then got my newest story back from the editor this morning and wanted to complete it first. Right now, all the RPgang are at the pool, and I want to get out there pretty quick. However, I did almost finish this about the time the first guests arrived. Right now, we're waiting for pizza so we can go back to the game, but I wanted to get this posted today.

So, enjoy it, I've got ...

When Daniel moved in with us, he'd been attending sixth grade at Wheatley. We made a real effort to assure he stayed in contact with his old friends, however, and they were regular visitors.

Quinten Sewell - Quint's mom tells me that the boys lived next door to each other since they were two. While there were the regular fights, they were pretty much best friends the entire time.

If I've not said it before, I brought Daniel home from the hospital on 12/23. That evening, we were having ...

To start with, Steve does do a little boarding, so he and Charlie had something in common. It’s funny to watch, because Steve reacts to Bobby and Charlie both as big brothers, even though he’s older than them. He gets along with both of them, but he and Charlie have slowly become pretty decent friends, I think. I also think it helped Steve adopt to actually living with me a LOT, that Charlie still had a paddle hanging in his room when Steve moved in, and that he actually received a spanking ...

I'm not going to try to do the entire family tree here. Let's start by saying that Dad had three sibs and Mom had two. On Dad's side, there's Aunt Carrie, Uncle Phil, and Aunt Christy. I forget how old the other two are, but Christy is about 15 months older than me. Mom is the youngest. Uncle Rodney was born when Grandpa was in Europe I believe, he was actually born almost exactly nine months after the wedding. Aunt Diane was born about 10 months after Granpda got back from Europe (or after ...

Since all my boys except Barry are adopted, that means that they have family that's not related to me. Some of them spend more time with that family than others, but they sometimes affect a story, so I thought I'd mention them here, since I just found out about Bryce's grandparents last night.

First, let me mention the kids who are really orphans or close to it.

Van and Mickey might have family in Russia, but no one was able to track any down. Their first adopted dad seems to have ...

My intention is to make this a place only to answer questions that arise about Bransom.

Please keep in mind that I am trying to write literally hundreds of stories, and will do my best to get things explained. If you just can't stand the curiosity, please ask. I know it's confusing, because I jumped into writing stories that are happening today, and it's like walking into a soap opera that's been running for 43 years. Sorry, and I'll do my best to make things clear.
