Since I remember what it was like when I was 12 (I was an early bloomer), I don't think I'd try to call one instance a trend. After all, dogs have tails, the ocean has salt, and teenage boys have hard-ons.

The first think I think I'd do is look at his reactions. Okay, he had a hard-on that didn't go away (or came right back) during a strapping. That's a sign, but was he staying still, or squirming and kicking. Was he taking it quietly or yelling and begging you to stop? If he's acting like it hurts, it might be safe to assume that it hurts. I would also talk to him about alternate punishments, and if he thinks the belt's still working.

If you do decide that the belt is still a good idea, but erections continue, even on a sometime basis, then you can either have him do corner time before he's allowed to go to the bathroom, or even have him go to the bathroom and masturbate before the punishment.

Or, you can do like I did with Troy, and tell him he can have a whipping whenever he wants one, as long as he's stayed out of trouble the last two weeks.

Seriously, though - while I usually continue the threat of a spanking up until a boy is 16 and has his license, by 14, they're really old enough to understand grounding and/or restrictions. If the boy getting an erection is a problem, switch to those.

I'm a bit confused by these references to boxers and briefs as I specified that I punished Ivan on his bare backside.

Is it being suggested that in future I should allow him to wear either boxers or briefs before applying my belt to his backside? If so what is that expected to achieve?

You are quite right, Ivor. Keep whacking his bare backside for greater and more lasting pain.

If you suspect he might enjoy it, whack him harder and more whacks. A cane, paddle or switch will deliver more of your energy in the form of pain than a flexible belt will.
