Since the stories appearing at MMSA lately have not been much to my taste (and it looks like we may be about to embark on another drought), I've been grazing among the authors and trying a few that I don't remember. I stumbled across Klinger's stories and thought I would recommend them. He writes well and I think his stories would appeal to those who like Jack's sort of domestic scenarios. He doesn't have but eleven, and I've not read them all. I can recommend the ones I have read.

I didn't want to comment on these until I'd read a couple. Since I've not been reading much at all lately, it took a little while.

I'd just like to say that, after having read two of them (A Brother's Angst and Big Brother at Large part 1, which was apparently intended to be a series, but this is the only part written), that these are good, solid enjoyable stories, that don't quite make it to great.

IMO, A Brother's Angst was a much better story. Big Brother at Large certainly wasn't bad, but I think he tried to do too much with it. Of course, it was intended to be the first part of a series, but I feel the story would have benefited from a bit of brevity. My only other real problem with it was, I really don't like the SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! school of spank-fiction. There can be places for it, but it's rarely to my taste. On the other hand, that's only happened in half of his stories that I've read, so I'm not going to condemn him for it.

If you're looking for something new to try, you could do a lot worse than some of these. I enjoyed them and think I'll give them a conditional four of five paddles.

I've mentioned that I'm another writer who is anti multiple SMACK! SMACK! 'school' of writing on on the malespank forum and was pleased to many authors agreed.

I do though accept that the occasional Smack! to express the point is OK however I tend to stop reading stories of authors who write in this way however everyone to their own taste, it's just not scene!

I can shed a wee bit of light on Klinger since I kept in contact with him for a while, but without breaking information he gave me in confidence.

Klinger was doing all right on MMSA until he came under attack by a virulent troll who was eventually exiled from the site, but it injured him in spirit. He's also had a lot of personal problems crop up which I believe are mostly straightened out now. Last I heard he was planning to post new stories under a different user name and with a collaborator. There my information comes to an end since he's difficult to contact via chat networks, and he doesn't seem to reply to email like he used to. Still trying to get in contact with him to see what he's up to, but time zone conflict makes it difficult to synch up. That's all I can say, really. I like him a lot and would love to see him write more; perhaps he has. But I'll need to find out what his new screen name is.

Pete - I have to agree that there really isn't a need for multiple 'smacks' in a story. The once exception I make (and that I've used), is when the smacks are punctuating a discussion. That's really not the same thing we're discussing, since I think we both mean when it looks like someone has just cut and pasted whole lines of that. My problem isn't so much with the word, as with the lack of effort and originality it tends to convey. Of course, everyone has a story that's the first they've written, so lack of originality can sometimes be forgiven, as long as they show promise and grow out of it.

In general though, I think we're on the same page.

Bernie - If you do get back in contact with him, let him know how much some of us have enjoyed his story, and ask if you can share his new screen name, so we can watch for his new stories.

I do understand how he felt. I posted some stories to a spanking board on a newsgroup nearly 15 years ago now and was attacked for everything but the quality of the story. I did NOT bother going back there to share more.
