Making Music

A Skater Production

Every year on your deceased grandfathers birthday you and the enire klan(a pretty large family) has a celebration of sorts of his life. You see you're grandfather was innovative in the world of blue grass music.

You bring some of your grandfathers favorite items including his old banjo. Your ten year old son Joshie has always joined you.

Joshie

You made it known to Joshie and all of the cousins that grandpa's stuff is not things to play with. You've promised any boy who touched anything a switching if they touched anything!

You then hear some music and turn to see Joshie holding the old banjo. He was playing with it but it sounded really good. The boy sounded like he knew what he was doing.

So what do you do now? Do you give him the promised switchin, get him music lessons or both?

I'm getting him music lessons. Instruments ARE to be touched, as long as they're touched respectfully.

I agree with Kier. Bad promises need to be broken. I may have a quiet word with him, as he should have asked.

He wasn't playing WITH IT, he was playing ON IT. He couldn't do that without touching. Surprised Very Happy

I'm pretty sure someone in this large clan is going to remind me of this rather silly threat/promise I made.

"Stop your plucking Joshie and get cutting"

If he's as good as on that video he doesn't need lessons.I think I have to think about what the old man would have wanted. I think he would have loved the idea of his little great grandson playing his banjo and keeping the music alive. And was I blissfully unaware the boy had talent. He should have asked certainly and that an be discussed, but not with a switch

MM caught the same nuance that I did on first reading. The banjo is no easy instrument to play, time to get Joshie some lessons if he is interested.

No switching is warranted, but Josh is in for a Dad/Lad talk about asking.

If it's not to be touched, it needs to be in a museum. And I seriously doubt that grandpa's favorites are the things.

Lessons, no switching.
