WHY DID THE YORKIE CROSS THE ROAD?
A Kalico Production

You live near a very busy park with a high volume of traffic. The park is located at the end of your block and you are about the third house from that road. You have told your 8 year old son, Roland, several times not to cross the road over to the park unless you or another adult is with him. The last time you caught him you told him that if you caught him again you would punish him.

You are driving home from work and are just about to pull into your drive when you hear a car horn blast and tires breaking you look over to see what it's all about and you see Roland with your family's pet yorkie at the park like this......

What's gonna happen now?

I'm going to ask him what's up?

If the Yorkie "escaped" and Roland just now presumably saved his life, I think he gets a pass. Otherwise, I will take them both home, put the Yorkie somewhere safe and separate from us (since I don't want to be bitten)and wear Roland out.

Am wondering if the horn blower will stop and tell me what happened. A small excitable boy? A small excitable dog? No lead? Recipe for disaster. Unless the dog bolted from the front yard then Roland had no reason to be on the road and I will turn him over my knee. There may be mitigating circumsances but if not I will make good on my promise young man

The Yorkshire rose is white, but I'm afraid Roland's posterior is almost certainly shortly due to resemble a Lancashire one - red.

I'm going to give Roland a chance to explain himself. I think that if Roland went into the road to rescue Yorkie, I'm going to have a different reaction.

If he went for any other reason, his little bare bottom will be over my lap, and he'll be getting a deluxe session with the Tailblazer.

If he did go after the Yorkie, I'm going to explain that I'm glad he saved him, but that he was still in danger and still disobeyed. I'll then send him to his room with the understanding that I can't decide what to do right now. I'll then call around to one of the other parents I really respect, explain the situation, and get some feedback, which also gives me time to calm down (and for my pulse to slow) before I decide.

I'm with Kier again.

I'm with Kier also, as the plain fact is that any normal boy will attempt the rescue of his dog, regardless of threats!

I echo all of those who say if Roland was indeed attempting to rescue York then we will talk. If the dreaded triple D is at play then Roland needs and will get a spanking.

Not just boys, Icono.

Google: "man drowns trying to save dog". You'll immediately get at least 10 pages of hits. And I'm pretty sure I'd have been one of them in those circumstances.

I shall try my best to ask questions before I "knee jerk" react. Either way Roland ends up with a red bottom... stingoors and hugs or a spanking and tears.

Whether stingoors or for real, Roland and I will go over the rules again and see it there's a better way to save the day if there's a next time with the pup.
