FOUL BALL AND THE KITCHEN WINDOW
A Squarecutter Production

Your son David and his best pal Aaron , both aged 8, are keen members of the same local baseball team. You and Aaron's Dad assist with coaching and transport and live on  the same street.  The two boys are in and out of each others houses all the time. You have a mutual spanking arrangement whereby boys face the consequences of misbehaviour from the host parents if the boys get in trouble together. You have both started using a small paddle for more more serious behaviours.

The boys are at your home this Sunday afternoon . You said David could practice his pitching provided they were well away from the house and the ball wasn't being hit towards the house. Well, best laid plans and all that, David,  in his own words, produced his "fastest pitch ever" which Aaron only succeeded in top edging. The ball looped upward and then came down some 30 feet behind Aaron. Unfortunately it came to rest in the kitchen having taken out the window with a resounding crash and tinkle of glass on the way. Happily no one was in there but you now have the incriminating evidence in your hand and two very worried little boys in your sights.

Are they in trouble and how much?

If I understand the scenario, they WERE well away, and were NOT hitting towards the house.  It was a foul back.  If that's correct, then this was an accident, and no one is in trouble.

Windows can be replaced.

In my day it would have been time for Dad to teach the boys how to replace a pane of glass. Accidents can happen and one did. I see no reason to inflict pain on either boy.

Who am I to rock the boat?

This was an accident that sounds like an unavoidable one and perhaps a bit of a fluke at that.  Stoney's right; this is a great time to show the guys how to replace a window pane without posterior
pain.

Now be careful there, guys!

I see no reason to leave the fold.  Count me in the consensus as well.

It sounds like they were following the rules I set, so there's not much else to do but call someone to fix the window and take the boys to the ball field for future practice.

It was an accident. I think the kids are growing bigger and this demonstrates that the backyard isn't big enough any more sadly so baseball will have take place in the park. Sad thing about that is they will probably have to wait till one of us Dads is free to escort them, at least for a while

Instead of sending the kids to the park I will either replace the vulnerable windows with lexan or protect them with a steel grill.

I agree with everyone else, it was an accident.
