Lately, he seems to have found a group of friends and at first, you were happy; however, you have lately decided you do not really care for the boys your son is hanging out with… they are disrespectful to you and you have suspicions that they don’t really care for Nicky and are just abusing him as a kind of joke.
He comes in very late one Friday evening seriously ill; he arrives home at about one in the morning (his curfew is eleven on weekends without special permission) his trousers soiled and in an awful mess. His diarrhoea is bad enough that you want to take him to the emergency ward to be checked out, but he is adamant in his refusal to go… obviously, taking an uncooperative teenager to the hospital is not going to be very easy. He states that he thinks he was poisoned in the cafeteria at school, although you are doubtful about this; you think that you’d have heard something about it on the local news and you are pretty sure the boy is not being truthful with you about it.
Your inbox contains a email flagged as urgent when you arrive – it is from one of your colleagues at the office who you regard as a close friend. It contains a link to a YOUTUBE which shows your son’s new “friends” spiking a bottle of Gatorade with enough magnesium citrate to skitter an African elephant and administering it to him without his knowledge. It also contains a horribly embarrassing shot of Nicky’s bare backside on the toilet. Your son’s face is shown and the boy is instantly recognisable… the video has gone viral locally and your colleague’s kids knew who it was as soon as they opened the link. They also make several very unkind, disparaging remarks about the lad in the video as well... among which the words "dirty little faggot" feature prominently.
Nicky has said absolutely nothing to you about what really happened and you are completely shocked by what you've seen…
What do you do now?
