Goofing Around
An Ivor Production

It is the 1950s.

You are on holiday and your 14 year old son Rick is a little bored. He was throwing some mud around earlier and you warned him to be very careful where he threw it. You didn't mind too much if it his you or his intended targets of his 15 year old sister and 16 year old brother.

Now he has started again

only this time his aim is off and it lands on another couple who are actually eating their meal.

Is Rick in for a spanking?

If so, will it be here and now and will those trunks come all the way down?

Can you dig it?

Bransom Postmaster
Easy one.. dry him off and even him out!

Can you dig it?

I didn't stop him. I told him to be careful. It was clearly an accident.

Even big league pitchers sometimes throw wild. I'm going to explain to Rick that's why we don't throw anything except under controlled circumstances.

We're going to apologize to the other couple and offer to pay any cleaning bills. No spanking.

I agree with Doc's answer in the modern era, but it's the 50's; he's toast!! Shoot, even in the 60's or 70's (and not counting Alex!) I'd have gotten busted for that!!

I consider the warning I gave him to be careful should have prevented something such as this happening. It was an accident, but one that he should have avoided. I'm not spanking him, but I will escort him to the couple to offer his apologies; and I will deduct the dry cleaning costs from his allowance. I will pay for the couples' dinner myself, as I should have made my warning a prohibition. It's the least I can do to make up for the incident.

I like Kat's answer for today, but feel it would have gone further in the 50's. Even if Rick's spanking was done out of the couple's/public's view, it would have been easily hear by all those in the area.

.I suspect a baseball travels further when thrown than mud. I'm surprised a 14 year old would be doing this. I suspect in the 50s I would feel under pressure to show that I was in control of my son so I will be taking the boy in and turning him over my knee and I suspect some of the noise will reach outside. I will then take the lad over to the couple and have him apologize. I wanted him to take care and he did not heed me

I'll go with Docs answer.

Even in the 50's as long as he was truly and honestly apologetic over the accident I would let the matter rest apart from a too late closing of the stable door.  Especially since I was partially complicit in the accident by not closing it earlier.

Rick is 14 and beyond spanking.  Only if I thought it was a deliberate act, or he thought it was funny, would I spank leather him and it certainly would not be in public view or earshot

I'm in agreement with kat.....

Don't really know much about the 50's and 60's but in the 70's I'm sure my brother/dad would have felt that the ONE warning should have taken care of that I'm prety sure of that outcome........ Embarassed Embarassed

scratch  wondering why I was'nt out there with him...looks like fun!

Hugs kal

From what my Dad and step-dad told me, he's probably getting spanked, since he was told to be careful.

As for myself, I like to think that I'd consider the circumstances (especially the area, and how high the chances were that he'd hit someone else). Unless it looks like it was very likely to happen and he really should have known better, I'm going to start by suggesting an apology and seeing where it goes from there.

After this, if he throws anymore mud, then that will be his name.

"In the end, it's just a story. But if you ask me, it's all true."
