THE TIME CAPSULE
A Leti Production

You have two sons:  Albert is fourteen and Robbie is twelve.  Robbie has been studying time capsules at schools and tells Albert about it.  The boys decide to bury their own time capsule that they plan to open in ten (maybe five) years. They mostly fill their capsule with toys and trinkets and bury it in the back yard.

ROBBIE - 12 & ALBERT - 14

Almost as soon as the capsule is under the earth, Robbie comes to you and tells you what is in the capsule.  He says it is mostly toys and trinkets but he also says Albert wrote out a confession and buried that in the capsule.  Robbie says Albert said he was joking but Robbie thinks he was very serious.

Albert had been going through a difficult phase but, after the time capsule, he is an amiable boy again.

Do you ask him about the confession?  Do you just leave it alone?  Perhaps you go dig up the time capsule to see for yourself?  Something else?

If Albert seems back to himself, I'll leave buried capsules buried.

I'll let him know, without it being related or traced back to his brother, that he can, and should, come to me if he ever has anything on his mind.

I think I need to talk to Robbie about the best ways to keep someone's trust. If this was something Al wanted to talk to me about, he would have. Unless he knows this is something life threatening, he should have kept it to himself.

Having said that, since I do know about this, I'm going to make a point of talking with Al a bit, and letting him know he can come to me about anything. This might just be something about which he felt guilty and needed to get off his chest. It might drive me crazy for a bit, but I don't think it would be a good idea to pursue it.

First of all, I'm going to spank Robbie for wearing that shirt.  Razz   Laughing

Otherwise I agree with Jack.

Under these circumstances I'm going to leave it alone.

Let sleeping dogs lie!

That is, however, unless Rover digs up the capsule and presents it to me to open which, no doubt, he will do if they were foolish enough as to put any in the capsule.

I leave well alone and I guess whatever it was short of homicide will come under the family statute of limitations! Albert will be bigger than me by then anyway. I will remind both boys that they can always tell me whats troubling them. Glad Albert is back to normal though I will be intrigued to know what was troubling him

I don't know....

I'm more bothered by his unwillingness to talk about whatever is troubling him than the burial of the confession. I think I need to make an effort to get Albert to open up to me and talk this through.

As Square said, unless it's a confession to capital murder, we'll deal with it! If I absolutely can't get him to talk, I too am willing to wait until the capsule's unearthing to discover the secret; I just hope that between now and I've convinced him of my trustworthiness.

Jack nailed it, I think.

When I saw this pic of the kids digging the idea of a time capsule jumped to my mind.

I remembered that Kat wrote a story about a time capsule and a confession. Though the father had not clue about it until...

It is a very good read!
