Jonty and Friends
An Ivor Production

Your 13 year old son Jonty has got a group of his friends round for a sleepover.

It is a Friday night, but both you and your spouse have to go to work on Saturday.

You have popped your head round the door twice and told them to keep the noise down but without too much success The last time you did so you warned Jonty that he knew what came next if you had to ask again. This was greeted with loud 'Oohs' from him and the rest of the gang. You then extended your warning to cover the whole group. You have spanking rights for most but not all of them.

Around 2:30 the noise breaks out again, This is the scene that greets you when you go in the room

Are those grey shorts of Jonty's coming down now, later, or not at all?
And what about the rest of the gang?

It's a sleepover, and I don't want to be an ogre.

I'm going to ask them whether they need to be separated, and let them know this was their final warning.  If I have to come in again, either everyone's shorts are coming down, or I'm awakening other parents at 4AM to come fetch their kids.

No way is Jonty going to be the only one getting punished for the group's actions.

PS--unless there is some compelling reason why the sleepover couldn't be postponed, expecting 13 year olds at a sleepover to be silent angels is unrealistic--I could make a pretty compelling argument this is my (and my spouse's) issue, not the boys'.

Really Doc is quite right about this.  In 35+ years of scout mastering, I know of exactly NO times the boys were ever quiet on the first night.  Even at MY childhood home there was an expectation that we'd be up all night gabbing!  The only qualifier was that we'd be functional for AM milking 'or else' but otherwise we were left to our own devices.  Jonty an Co are safe from me!

The way I read the scenario, it sounds as if the over-nighter was planned first and the Saturday workday was a last minute change and too late to cancel the event.

I wish I'd been more proactive and arranged for more separated sleeping arrangements instead of issuing the group ultimatum.

If I've spanked all the boys at sometime in their pasts, this may be a time to give them all "good boy" style spankings or stingoors or the like, so I honor my threat to them and then see if they can finally get some sleep. Maybe its not too late to separate them.

I'm still trying to see how I can rouse and feed them all before my spouse and I are off to work in the morning.

Like Dimitri, in all my years from being the boy to being the parent/grandparent/Scout leader of boys there is no such thing as a sleep-over until the second night. The boys are being boys and I was fully prepared to deal with the noise until I found out the need for us to work.

I concur with Dimitri and Stone.

The last thing that occurs at sleepovers is sleep.  Very Happy

The boys are safe. I will just ask them all to move to the den where they won't disturb the spouse and me.

I will do what I do in RL. I will forget about the noise and put on a political podcast to play through my computer speakers. Hopefully that will jam out the noise!

there is NO HOPE the boys will be quiet!

Why did I let him have a sleepover if we have to be at work in the morning? I think this is a case of getting what I asked for.

However, I am going to do what I promised - "Jonty, I told you that you knew what would happen if I had to come back: no more sleepovers on work nights!"

If they all beg and get their shorts down, I might redden some bottoms instead - and since it's 'playful', I won't worry too much about the kids I don't have official permission for.

There seems to be one rather hairy 13 year old in there! Older brother?

No is the answer though there might be some stingers.. Last last chance though

I'm with Kier, though I might give some playful swats as a token punishment.

Jack's solution is one certain way that they won't all just shut eyes and let him sleep through the rest of the night.   Boys ain't made like that.   Cool
