Andy and His Skateboard

This is Andy posing with the skateboard that his Grandma gave him as a birthday present. He likes to skateboard, but… he does not like the color.
He was polite enough with Grandma and hugged her and kissed her.

The next day he decided to change the color. He found some paint in the garage and used it on the skateboard. The paint didn't stuck on the skateboard so much, but he left a mess in garage…

What do you do?

How old is Andy? Unless we've had discussions before about what he is/isn't allowed to do in the garage, and they covered painting, then no spanking. He and I will clean things up, he'll have rules spelled out to him, then maybe we can figure a way for him to earn money for a new skin.

I kinda lean in Jack's direction but you never know what we have discussed or not.

He looks very young I agree with Jack. His penance will be to help clear up the mess. His next allowance may have to go on the paint he used. Was purple the original colour Grandma chose for his board. If so he deserves much credit for being so polite and hiding his feelings from her. No spanking

I agree with Jack too.

I am not worried about paint on the garage floor. Andy can help clean up.

I know that I forbade the boys to use spray paint unsupervised until they were 10.  I'm concerned about lack of adequate ventilation more than I am about a mess.  If this was one of mine he'd be on the way to the den for a moderate hand spanking with a firm reminder to ask first.

If he painted it red then it'll match the color his butt is going to be shortly.  Evil or Very Mad

Actually it won't because if he s only 6 or 7 then I wouldn't be spanking him.

He's very young and his attitude to grandma has earned him credits against the colour I'm tempted to paint his bottom.

He's in for a stern lecture, perhaps a stingoor or two, and he can help clear up the mess.

Then he can choose a colour, we'll get the paint and we'll do the job properly together.

I feel somewhat responsible, as I should have made it clear to him that I have the gift receipt and we could easily have exchanged. I'm in agreement with most that he's too young to deserve a spanking for this sort of thing unless I had very specific rules about the garage. I hope salvaging the skateboard will be possible.

At six or seven, any Andy in my house knows that painting anything is only done with Dad's permission and assistance (We had the discussion when he was 5). I don't blame him for not liking a "girl's color, but he should have waited.

I did and do appreciate the level of maturity Andy displayed when dealing with his Grandmother, but that does not absolve him from getting a mild spanking for direct disobedience, before we clean things up and go in search of a proper paint for this project.

This didn't really occur to me - probably because purple is the color for TCU, which is probably the biggest college football team in our area - I think my boys would probably look at that board and want to add a horned frog to it.

HA! That's good. I never thought of it as a girl's color either, until I married and acquired a daughter who's still in love with purple. An area private high school's colors included purple, and that was an all boys school when it started. Go figure.

I went to school in a purple or mauve uniform!  I saw this as more of a case of personal taste, The real girly colour would be pink
