His body has remained in the corner though his nose came out. Hmmm. Perhaps I'm being too authoritarian. To me, corner time is a type of time out. It is taking him away from activities and causing him to be still and quiet. For an 8 year old, 8 minutes is very long time. If Brian is an ordinary kid, staring at the wall is sensory deprivation approaching torture -- particularly if I started the time out over. I think I'll work on my tendency to be over-controlling and give Brian a break, so long as his body stays in the corner. I also think that perhaps I would have been kinder to give him a few firm swats instead of putting him in that corner to begin with, though I expect corner time seemed the milder option when I chose it.
