Brett's Bad Day
An Ivor Production

Your neighbour just called round to say that he was down the shopping mall a short while ago and he spotted your 17 year old so Brett there in what he described as 'a bit of a state' .

Brett has struggled at school and college and you have agreed that he can stay living at hone, but will be subject to your discipline while he does. Brett accepted that arrangement and you have had occasion to whip his butt on a couple of occasions since he turned 17.

You go down the mall and after looking around for a while eventually find your son:

What is going to happen to him when you get him home?

I'm going to invite my friend Jack over tomorrow and invite him to bring a nice switch!

My son needs professional intervention.

No spanking is going to help him now.

I will clean him up and feed him and put him in a warm bed when we get home but tomorrow we find a counselor.

The first thing is to make sure what's really wrong with him. Assuming he's not sick, it'll depend a lot on if we've had any troubles before. If this is a repeat thing, then I think David has the right answer.

I had already responded to this, but the response is lost in the ethernet. I hate this "new and improved" version of forumotion.

Anyway, first thing I need to know is exactly what happened. My response is going to be very different if Brett got mugged than if he's lying there stoned or intoxicated.

If his "state" is self-inflicted, I agree with Katz--we'll get him home, cleaned up, and into counseling, possibly including an inpatient facility, ASAP. If someone did this to him, he needs an entirely different sort of emotional support. Either way, I'm not spanking him.

Stevie does not know what the matter is with the boy...

He may be drunk... in which case we'll take him home and put him to bed, lying on his side with a bucket at his head...

BUT... if he's not stinking of alcohol, we're headed to the closest ER instead... if it's drugs, I want him under medical care and all...

Even if it's just depression he needs help and I perhaps should have paid more attention...

He may be sick, or been beat up... I can't tell, except that he doesn't appear to be wearing trousers... Stevie hopes the boy has not been sexually assaulted... Shocked

Stevie.

A good point that I had not considered.

I need the full story. What has he got inside him. Is he coherent. What was  in that coke can. Is he out of curfew, Is he just upset because his girlfriend dumped him. Was he set on and beaten up/had alcohol poured down his throat. I will do nothing til h's had a sleep and we can talk. Then I rule nothing out

The picture doesn't explain a thing about my boy. What I find when I/we talk will, I hope, send me in the right direction.
