Mean Feet
An Ivor Production

You have recently had new furniture delivered. You have told your 11 year old son Kirk that he needs to keep his feet off as opposed to the old furniture where you took a relaxed view to him sitting in chairs with his feet on them or even climbing over them. You told him that if you found him with his feet on any of the chairs he'd be bending over the arm of it while you apply your trusty slipper to his rear.

All went well for a few days but today you enter the room and see:

When you tell Kirk to get down from there and get over the arm of the chair he protests saying that he isn't wearing any shoes so that doesn't count.

Do you consider that to be bare faced cheek or will his bare cheeks escape the dreaded slipper?

"he protests saying that he isn't wearing any shoes so that doesn't count."

Good point so no spanking!

The furniture is for use not show.

Did I read somewhere that 90% of accidents happen in the home?  Kirk is an accident waiting to happen, luckily for me.  If he continues to protest I shall say :  "Kirk, feet are feet. Anyway, I am bigger and older than you. Now get 'em off and get over it!"

Where did I get that new furniture? In an antiques shop?

Anyway, armchairs are for sitting, not for climbing. That's dangerous, even for a lightwight like him.

However, pulling his feet close or sitting on his legs is quite normal for a kid and with clean bare feet that should not matter.

First, I'll explain that he doesn't make the rules, so he doesn't get to decide what counts. Then I'll remind him of why we have the new rules. The simple truth is that it wouldn't be good to have even a small 11-year old standing on the arm of a chair that way, but I don't see it as a spanking offense, unless it continues to be a problem.

But as far as climbing around like he is doing then shoes, socks or bare feet it is not safe and I will explain that to Kirk

No spanking this time.

I had new furniture once - 1927, I think it was.  Crying or Very sad

I remember when IKEA was all flat. Or was that Upper Bavaria? scratch

Anyway, I'm going to whack him.

If I made the promise I should keep it, so Kirk's bottom and my slipper will be renewing their acquaintance.

However, I have to say that I'm not a fan of buying furniture where children are not allowed to play.
