T'was the Feast of Stephen. Bad King Wenceslaus was very unpopular especially amongst the peasants living in the Saint Agnes' Fountain quarter right against the forest fence underneath the mountain.
His PRO advised he should be seen to do something charitable so he could be rebranded as "Good King Wenceslaus".Just then an old man came in sight gathering winter fuel.
"Bring me meat and bring me wine, bring me pine logs hither," the king ordered his long-suffering page boy, "and be quick about it! Never mind that the old geezer lives a good league hence, thou and me shall see him dine. I need the publicity."
Cursing the rude wind's wild lament, the king strode ahead while the boy struggled to carry the goodies through the snow, which was deep - not to mention crisp and even.
"Sire, the night is darker now and the wind blows stronger," pled the page. "My heart fails. I can go no longer."
Do you think the lazy boy should get a whacking?
