THANK YOU!
A DMK Good Boy Production

Your son, Perry, just had his thirteenth birthday yesterday.  You have two elderly aunts that always send Perry money for his birthday and this year was no exception.  Usually it is a struggle to get Perry to write a thank you note to his great-aunts.

However, Perry got up this morning and is writing the thank you notes first thing.  You had not even had time to remind him or prompt him or even help him.

Do you do anything special to recognize Perry's attitude and initiative?

Nope... nothing special that wasn't already planned. I will give him a a bear hug and some stingoors as I whisper in his ear how pleased I am to see my little boy growing up and taking responsibility/initiative to get such things as thank-you notes done without parental pushing.

Yes - I'm going to spank him for sitting on the table which he knows he is not allowed to do.

I'm with Ivor.

Those superstitious aunts would be absolutely horrified if they knew he was writing their thank you note with HIS SHOES ON THE TABLE. Sad

I hope I won't do anything special for this. Instead, I'll do the same thing I try to do anytime I see him taking the initiative in things he's supposed to do - I'll thank him for taking care of it and remind him I'm proud of him. (Mussing the hair and hugs are optional, but always good).

Shocked You're right - I thought that was a window box.

Oh well, it's probably a table in his room. If I don't have to eat off it, he can sit on it.

Enjoy. He nay be too big to sit on tables soon! I will congratulate him on doing this without being asked but if he leaves shoe marks on the table cleaning that off will be his next task.

Oh come on, guys. How is he supposed to look out of his window watching girls bees and birds without sitting on that table?

Well, if the notes are what the aunties want (I would prefere to get a call), I will give him a mild praise for that.

Pad, that opens up an entirely different can of worms.

Most (all, as far as I know) etiquette sources agree that thank you notes are still required. I wasn't raised that way. With my kids, the basic rule is, if someone gives you a gift in person, you may thank them in person. If someone sends you a gift, then you should send a thank you note. The one thing where I've really been kind of wishy washy is when someone is hosted. I've never sent or expected thank you notes for parties, but I have sent them (and often a host gift) for big events, like being included on trips.

So I can see this - especially when it comes to keeping the maiden aunts happy.

Jeepers people, he's just sitting on his desk in his room and all for better lighting.
