Branching Out
An ivor Production

You are the Principal of a Summer Camp for boys. A clause in the agreement that parents sign for the boys to spend time there does give you the right to paddle for misdemeanours. It is also stipulated that you have the right to paddle 'bare'.

You told your boys this morning that the nearby river in which they usually swim is off limits due to it having extra water in it and a strong current, plus there is a warning of a flood surge from upstream later in the day. You thus told them that today they were not to go in, on or near it.

Around midday you walk down to the river to check the level and you see:

Four of your fourteen year old 'guests'. From the left Tab, Ethan, Ricky and David, sitting on a branch that juts out over the river.

When challenged they claim they are not either 'in' or 'on' the river but have no answer to the 'near' other than for Ethan to suggest that you didn't actually say that.

Are they going to get a paddle today after all? Will they be keeping their shorts on? And how many licks - the maximum allowed is six.

It strikes me that this is probably a group "dare" that none was prepared to chicken out from. I think four on shorts should make a sufficient impression on them while leaving scope for an escalation in punishment level if they transgress again.

In this situation, I would be hesitant to paddle for anything other than major violations of the rules. However, at best, these boys are just ignoring me when I'm giving them instructions, and at worst, they're flat out disobeying. Since this is a safety issue, I'm going to give them the choice between losing some privilege or getting swats - if they chose swats, I think one on their trunks will make my point... this time.

I will push them in. That way they are definitely disobeying me. Then they will be wet and I can dry them off and . . . Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

No, I think I will follow along in Jack's plan.

I'm laughing at David's clever idea, but I'm going to follow Jack's suggestion.

Hmmm... Wonder just how strong that branch is.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I am the principal of the camp and the safety of ALL the campers is my responsibility

The other campers will be interested in my reaction to this flouting of safety rules.

I'm going to march them back to where the paddle is stored, their shorts WILL be coming down and their punished butts WILL be worth viewing afterwards.

Their trying me out. In keeping with the spirit of the rule and because this is about safetyI am going to give each of them three on the bare leaving some wiggle room if they choose carry on disobeying me

Lol katz...... ditto jack

I'll go with Pi Beta.

Stone Man

I'm with MM and Squarecutter today. It is a safety issue. If these "older" kids get away with it I'm afraid the youngers will think it a lark and do the same or worse.
