Go To Bed
A John Ross Production

You have three sons Jacob whose 12, Cody and Timothy twins who are both 11. Tomorrow you are all going to your sister's for a family reunion. It's about a five hour drive and you have to leave early so you tell the boys that they need to be in bed by nine instead of their usual ten o clock bedtime. You get some complaining but tell them there will be consequences, which means a spanking, if they don't listen. At 9:30 you walk past Jacob's bedroom and you see this.

Let's be honest here --- the reason we have a bedtime is because that's when it's time to go to bed. If I could just wave my wand and fall asleep at any time, bedtimes would be unnecessary.

While I'd prefer they be lying down, it looks like they are obeying the letter of the law. And, quit honestly, I should really be keeping them up later than normal tonight, hoping they'll sleep at least part of the trip tomorrow.

Technical disobedience, but my screw up, so they're getting a pass.

Ditto Jack. If they're sleepy on the car ride, that's to my benefit.

I agree, they should sleep in the car!

As a charter member of 'Insomniacs R Us' I find myself again chiming in with Jack. As long as they are quietly spending the time they'll likely drop off in their due course. Even if they don't, you can be sure they'll be zonked out in the car which isn't really a bad thing at all!!

Now back in my day when you went to bed you didn't have all these new fangled electronic contraptions to stop you using the bed for the purpose for which it was intended. So, if I really want them to sleep I should remove all the distractions.

Mind you, whether they sleep or not I know they are going to be as grumpy as hell when I wake them up early tomorrow morning.

Like jack said,Technically they have disobeyed but I sympathise if they're not tired. But now I do want them in their beds not on them and also to switch off those devices as I think they rather stimulate them rather than relax them. A little quiet chatter would be better between them would be better. No spanks yet

When my little brothers were about this age, my dad would leave on trips very early in the AM. Normally all of us slept in briefs (and maybe t-shirts), unless it was very cold. On nights before trips, the boys would have to go to bed in gym shorts. Dad and I would lay out a pallet in back, and we woke the boys just long enough to relieve themselves and climb in the back of the truck, then they went back to sleep, and we could get several hours on the road before they woke.

Actually, I often play for a while before I try to go to sleep. For me, it's a good way to clear my mind of the stresses of the day. I'd imagine that does depend on the game one is playing, though.

I remember reading an autobiography by a Frenchwoman, who described putting the kids to sleep with a slice of bread soaked in red wine -- necessary so the adults could work the fields without worrying about the little ones. Sounds like a plan to me. Razz
