A DMK Production

Nine year old Andrew and eleven year old Jackson are your sons. The boys are subject to spanking if needed. The boys are on summer break from school.

You and your SO were both very tired last night and so you each went to bed early leaving the boys playing video games in the den. You both awake this morning and realize the boys are not in their rooms or any where else in the house. You do not find the boys in the garage or front yard either. You and your SO begin to be concerned and panicked. It is then that you look towards the back of your property and see something. You go to investigate and see:

The boys explain that it was a nice night and they decided they wanted to camp out. The boys said you and your SO were asleep and so they didn't want to disturb you to ask permission.

(That "tent" is made from a new sheet from Jackson's bed that you just purchased.)

Is anyone in trouble?

As long as the sheet isn't damaged, nor will their hides be. However, we'll talk about learning to write notes in future, letting us know where they've gone if they ever consider doing something like this again

Question:  Is anyone in trouble?

Answer:  NO!!!

But to encourage them I will buy them a real tent and some surplus material to make a teepee from!

I agree with Pi Beta and Icono.

I agree with Icono.

Actually I'm so proud to have raised two resourceful and adventurous boys (who realise there is more to life that staring at a little screen) that I'm prepared to overlook that they knew darned well that if they'd woken us to ask permission to sleep out without a proper tent the answer would have been a resounding NO that I'm tempted to take them out a breakfast of sausage and beans.

They have just had an adventure they will remember for the rest of their lives, including the scare they gave us.

Then will come the talk.  It will focus less on what they did wrong than on better ways to fulfil their yen to sleep out under the stars.  Like Icono I will also buy them a tent.

Hmm!  Now I wonder if a closing hiding will give them a better story to tell their kids? Twisted Evil

"Tepee or not tepee that is the question."

I have to agree with the crowd. I will talk to them, not about what they did wrong, but about the better way to handle things. Even if they should have left a note kind of depends on our property (if this had happened to me, the first thing I would have done was check the tree house).

I like MMs answer. There may be the odd stinger but I like the sense of adventure and ingenuity. A note would have been nice though. I wonder if that makeshift teepee will still function as a bedsheet

Ditto PI and Icono
