WHEN YOU GOTTA GO . . .
A DMK Production

The year is 1969.

You are certain you hear something behind your house.  You step outside and there you see two of your neighbors' children, Andrew Brown and David Porter, who are both ten. The boys are chattering with each other and are relieving themselves in your drive.

Both boys live across the street from each other at the end of the street you live on.  You know each of the boys' parents very well.  The boys are supposed to be walking to school.

You ask the boys what they are doing. (Beyond the obvious.)

Andrew answers, "Sorry, but we had to go and your drive was the most private place we saw.  Anyway, it's just water.  It'll dry up."

How do you respond?

With a telephone call to both of their parents suggesting that extremely dire punishment is in order...

How do I respond? "My driveway isn't a pissoir. You might have tried knocking on the door and asking to use the bathroom." I don't see a need to say or do more.

Ditto Kat. Not a huge deal, but not something to encourage either.

I have to ask first and foremost, if they are going TO school, why the *&^% didn't they 'go' before they left home?!?

I would have likely been more understanding if they were coming FROM school but this smacks of young boys being idiots in my view.  I'm telling them that I intend to call their MOMS affraid  and let them know what I discovered, and tonight I expect them to come by and hose off my driveway because, as Kat pointed out, it ain't a pissoir and I don't need/want it smelling that way either.  I would hope that their home discipline works roundly similar to the way mine did.  If a neighbor called complaining about us to Mum, after we got our ears chewed off by her, it was off to the 'tender mercies' of dad (Alex).  Needless to say, we did our best not to get caught by the neighbors in any mischief!

So how long is this street we all live on that they couldn't have run back home?

I agree with Kat in that they should have knocked on the door and asked. If I know them and their parents then that shouldn't have been a problem.

I agree with Dimitri that I will be calling their parents and asking that the boys come by after school and clean my drive.

Given the time period I imagine my phone call will not bode well for them. pale

I'm in the Dimitri camp on this one. I can't just brush this off as water under the bridge....

Agreed. I will be letting their parents know. and also that I'm not buying that smack in the middle of the drive was the most private place. Against a wall may be. Also two of them at the same time with the same emergency??. If I didn't know them their school would be getting to hear about it.

On seeing this I should really have picked up two dustbin lids and used them as cymbols, clanging them together so loudly that the two lads wet themselves (and, maybe did the other as well in shock and fright!).

Otherwise, yes - over to their parents for action, apologies delivered and restitution in the form of cleaning up.

Depending on how well I know their parents, I'm either agreeing with Dmitri, or I'm having them pinch it off until we get to the bathroom in my house. After they finish, I'll show them that I also keep a brush in my bathroom...

But probably I'll just agree with Dmitri.

I really like Dimitri's summation:

"Young boys being idiots."

Isn't that usually the case?
