You have two children - a 15-year old daughter, Joanna and a 12-year old son, Hank.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The two of them seem to take particular joy in making each other miserable. You've reached the point where you generally ignore it, unless things are getting out of hand.

Of the two, Hank is generally better behaved. Though he's recently shot up, and is now nearly as big as his sister, you still use CP on him when he is in trouble, through mutual agreement. Joanna hasn't experienced CP in a long while, and generally loosing her phone is traumatic enough to curb her baser instincts.

You've been out working in the back, and you come in to find Hank playing with your phone and laughing maniacally. Taking the phone from him, you find this:

It doesn't make much sense, but Johnna is deathly afraid of all flying insects.

You quickly go shoo the moth from the bathroom and release her. She's crying and shaking and mad at you for taking so long. Do you tell her why the moth was texting? What happens to Hank?

I'm going to tell Hank that his joke wasn't a bit funny. I'm going to tell Joanna to "woman up" or whatever the PC term is. A moth isn't going to eat much. If she's that terrified, I'll show her how to use hairspray to immobilize it. And I'll make sure she never watches Silence of the Lambs.

No one is getting spanked. But a discussion about mutual respect, and jokes only being funny if they're funny to BOTH parties will happen. And given their ages, the discussion will probably be more painful than a spanking.

I am stealing this fine answer.

Its typical of a twelve year old's sense of humour and no doubt its payback time for some mean tricks played on him.

But its a wake up call for me.  Fear of biting and stinging insects isn't uncommon, - but a moth??.  This seems to be developing into a full blown phobia and its time to enlist some professional help.

I see its boxing day. I will have a word with Hank about playing nice and tell Jo she's being hysterical. After all moths in the are not exactly unusual . Oh and that phone is mine... at least for the rest of the day

Actually, the phone IS yours. You left it on the table, and when Hank heard the text come in, he just checked to see if it was important.

BTW - I first saw that text years ago and loved it. When I was trying to come up with a BOTD for Sunday night, that just jumped into my head, so I ran with it.
