It's Friday night, and you have a house full of kids. Among those kids are your youngest, your grand nephew, and one of their closest friends.

The three boys - Jake, Aidan, and Kenny - all 11

decide to play around with their instruments after dinner. They stay down there for a while, until one of Kenny's older brothers chases them off (he has a recital coming soon, and his practice time was already reserved).

When they go upstairs, they find Jake's younger brother, and a couple of other boys playing with action figures. The three older boys decide to join, much to the younger boys protest. They already had a story going, and they don't want to interrupt it. You're called in, and you tell the older three to go do something else - play with their own figures, if that's what they want to do.

A while later, you're called again. Aidan and another of Kenny's older brothers are upstairs with some friends, playing the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game. The younger boys are interrupting the game and bothering their brothers. They agree that they were asked to leave but didn't. You take them to Kenny's room, walk them through a number of the choices they have, then tell them to stay there.

Another while later, you go to see if the boys want a snack. They're not in Kenny's room. You eventually find them outside, playing with your dogs. It's pretty chilly outside, are you going to warm the boys up?

"In the end, it's just a story. But if you ask me, it's all true."

I'm torn.

On the one hand, they're playing outside and not bothering anyone. On the other hand, they were told to stay in their room.

They've had a number of chances already. I think it's time for them to be warmed up a little.

I think I'd be glad they found something to do that isn't bugging anyone else. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn't hear me tell them to stay put. Is there any particular reason why I told them that, other than wanting to keep them away from others' activities? Unless I had a really solid reason, I'm inclined to let it go.

What's the problem?! The boys correctly interpreted my instructions as "don't bother anyone else", so they went outside despite the cold. I forgot that boys have lots of energy so a little cold won't bother them!

Not sure if they were confined them for disciplinary reasons or convenience. On the face of it being outside shouldnt be a problem if dressed up to withstand the cold for a while and still on the property. May it is cold enough that it didnt occur to youthat they would want to be outside. If they disobeyed a confinement order they get spamked. Otherwise it seems they found something to do that didn't annoy anyone else

I'll side with Kat - as long as the dog are happy!

If the dogs are enjoying themselves, I'm happy

If you read the Spankorama, you'll know these three got spanked last Friday. However, the situation I describe here isn't exactly what happened.

I think that I would probably agree with Kat and Pi if what I described here is what actually happened.

What actually did happen is that, after being warned to stop bothering their brothers, they ended up down in the game room trying to take over the air hockey table, and that's when I sent them to Kenny's room. I went up and reminded them that they'd been invited to do other things, but they'd been doing their own thing, so they needed to do their own thing, and let the other groups do theirs (most of the boys were in the middle of something - not in a situation where they could easily stop and include more). I made several suggestions and left them alone.

When I came back and they were gone, I did find them outside, but they were pestering Bryce and a couple of his friends. When I asked what I'd told them, they said they'd just come outside to play with the dogs. That's when we went back to their room, and I kept them busy for a while.
