TOO LATE?
A Jack Production

Last week, you came home to find that part of the back of your twelve year-old son's dresser was broken.  He says he just slammed a drawer a bit hard, and it came off.  You blew it off, fixed it for now, and went on.

Today, you found this while doing a regular cheek on his Facebook page:

What really happened

Is it too late to deal with your son concerning this?

Surely a twelve-year-old knows that Dad checks out his Facebook page just to keep in the loop so unless he downright stupid he not going to incriminate himself like that.

The video sure does not look like his bedroom but at best a family room but more likely a place where he could toss that ball about.

I think he was just surprised that something got knocked about.

Time for some teasing about 'now that dad has found out -- get the paddle' and get close.

I will sit down with him and show him the video.

We will discuss how it would have been better to be honest up front.

I don't think his butt will burn but his ears will.

At worst it was horseplay. I'm sorry he felt the need to lie about it (assuming that the picture indicates what actually happened). Cutting him some slack will encourage honesty on his part.

This seems like a yellow card offence rather than a red one.

I'm guessing that he'd probably been warned many times in the past about playing ball in the house and maybe was even spanked for it in the past.

Unless it's been a recent problem, I'm not going to make a big deal about it. He will have to live with the broken dresser for now, though. I'm sure the break will give both of us something to laugh about in the future.

BTW - this wasn't really a 'me' production. Someone in chat shared this video (Sorry, but I don't remember who now). I just forwarded it to David with the story suggestion after that.

I agree with Kat. Think I might impound that ball for a bit though. Interesting though with that paddle on the wall . Looks like a sort of Kids play room.

There is no way that there should be a piece of furniture in a 12 year old boy's room that can be broken by a basketball! That dresser needs to be replaced, perhaps by a STEEL filing cabinet!
