It's Spring Break. Besides your energetic, rambunctious, and occasionally mischievous son, Tyler, you have your nephew, Drake, and your youngest brother, Chip.

Tyler, Drake, and Chip - all 13
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The three of them go out for a hike. You know they're planning to be gone for a long while, and they'll play some games out in the woodlot by your house. Before they go, you make sure all three of them wear theirwatches, and you agree on the time they're to be home.

They come home over forty-five minutes late. They blame it on Daylights Savings Time, which just started a few days ago. Normally, this would be a spanking offense for Tyler, and the other boys know the rules at your house and suffer the same consequences. The problem today is that Chip, who is fairer haired and skinned than the other boys, got a sunburn today, and Tyler ended up finding some poison ivy.

What happens to everyone?

I'm inclined towards leniency. I'll accept the DST excuse, but note that if there's a recurrence, neither poison ivy nor minor sunburn will save them. I'm assuming that neither condition affected that part which would be spanked anyway.

Tyler used the poison ivy to wipe himself after he answered a call of nature in the bushes... therefore his bottom is the worst affected part of his body save for his hands...

I'm still going to spank all of them... but Tyler can wait until he's had a good shower and washed all the urushiol out of his gluteal folds and crevices...

Stevie.

I'm in a good mood today so they get a pass with a strong warning.

45 minutes is no big deal as I knew about where they all were. Sunburn and/or poison ivy is a problem the boys need to learn to avoid. They way most people learn is the hard way, hopefully the boys will learn from each other so they don't all have to learn the hard way!

I think thats what someone once said about Golf!

I f I don't spank I the excuses received will only fly once. Can they all still have been on the wrong time, and don't mobiles now revert automatically.Sunburn is partly avoidable so, on my watch next time sunblock will be packed. There will be a pass THIS time

Oh goodness! Is it time to put the clocks on again? No-one told me. It makes no difference here anyway. The sun is about to set into the ocean in a few minutes' time. I can see that without looking at the clock. And in case I should ever miss it, there will be the sunset call to prayer to remind me. I can see the yellow glow coming into my west-facing room already. I'll have to whack the three boys later.

I don't think it changes in the US until next weekend, while in Europe it doesn't change until the 27th. Of course if you are lucky enough to live in Queensland it doesn't change at all Very Happy

Just when my dog walks are finally taking place in daylight, Daylight Savings Time plunges us back into the dark. Good thing it's saving the daylight for us. Razz

No need to guess --

DST starts:
USA*, Canada and UK  -- Sunday, March 13, 2016
Morocco,  Germany --  Sunday, March 27, 2016
North Queensland, Australia -- never!

You can check on  www.timeanddate.com for all sort of time stuff.  The neat little time on Windows when clicked will report for your time zone setting and will do it automatically.

I think both this and the malespank forum adjust automatically.

So, if I've grasped the concept, USA (excepting Arizona, but including Kat's dog) Canada and GB save more daylight than Morocco and Germany.  I hope they make good use of it!  But if they're gaining it, who's losing it?  scratch   Morocco and Germany?  I want it back!

I'm glad I'm not flying home between March 13th and 27th.  I don't think I could cope.  scratch

EM,

Sorry, things are even worse than you think. You go back to standard time on October 30 while the USA continues saving until November 6.

It is an unfair world. <sigh>

Thank you, YLee.  I shall write those dates in my pocket diary.  I think, out here, in the west, we should put the clocks on and leave them on.  What's the point of putting them back?  Anyway, who listens to me?  Sad  Most public clocks in Morocco stopped in 1956 when the French left, except in the Spanish controlled bits where the clocks never went in the first place.

I daresay the time-and-date site you mention is jolly accurate, but how do they know?  Maybe they get their information from Old Jonah's Fisherman's Almanac.  But what did Old Jonah know?  Did he know about Ramadan?  Did he know about the muzzin calling the daybreak adhan when there's enough light to distinguish between a black thread and a white one.

What did Ecclesiastes say about it?  Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is to behold the sun.

Eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart.

Sorry YLC, but the UK does not change on March 13th.

For some years now our change date has been set at the last Sunday in both March and October.

Oh no!  If we can't rely on YLee, who can we turn to?

Remember the days of darkness for they shall be many.  Ecclesiastes

And so, the advent of the Last Hour will but manifest itself in a single moment, like the twinkling of an eye, or closer still:  Koran.

Search me, try Old Jonah.  time-and-date.com

I'm b******d if I know! Old Jonah.

Ooooops -- Ivor is correct the start of DST for the UK is March 27.

Sorry but I mis-read the table. And I did not check for places other than Arizona that also stay on standard time and the are places in Nuavut also.

Looking a a nice warm corner now.
