Cam is 7. Cam is in trouble. Cam is supposed to spend 7 minutes with his nose to the wall, thinking about why he should follow the rules.

This is the third time he's asked you how much longer. What happens now?

It appears that Cam's sense of time is very different from that of an adult.  I suspect that he is feeling tortured at the wall and that not good for him.  I'm not going to continue to torture the boy.

I think we need to get a clock or timer so that he does not have to ask about the time for the next time and develop a more realistic sense of time..

The scenario doesn't say how much time has actually elapsed. I'm not 7, and waiting for a page to load on this excuse of an internet connection I now have seems like an eternity.

If it's close, I'm going to say something like "another 30 seconds", and when that has elapsed, we will discuss that the point of the punishment was for him to think about what he'd done, not to keep asking "how much longer". He'll be told that if that's too difficult, I can just spank him instead. If it's only been a minute, and he's already asked "are we there yet?" 3 times, then this punishment isn't doing what it's supposed to do. In which case, I'll just spank him.

I agree with Kier's take but I also like YLC's idea of using a timer for the next time.

Unless Cam is a lot more near-sighted than I am, he wouldn't be able to see a timer anyway, and even if he could, if his nose is supposed to be on the wall in order to think about what he's done, allowing him a timer would obviate that. While I appreciate the sentiment, it seems to be self-defeating to the sort of punishment this was meant to be.

Obviously putting Cam in the corner doesn't work... it's time for him to join his older brother in the oubliette...

I think it would be better practice to sit Cam on a chair facing the wall but without insisting that he cannot turn his head. If he is meant to be reflecting, he'll do that better if he doesn't have to concentrate on a rigid set of rules.

I'm sure 7 minutes feels like an age to one so young, but this is meant to be a punishment.

If say 3 or 4 minutes have elapsed I'm tempted to tell him that he still has x minutes left, but if he wishes I'll spank him for those minutes instead.....

If he does it again he gets 2 more minutes. Its not fun, its not meant to be. If he does it again after that he can do time over my lap and then complete his time in the corner
