You have three teenage sons - Alex, 17, Brady, who just turned 16, and Cliff, who is 14.

Alex was always pretty well behaved, and you hadn't used CP with him in a while before he received his driver's license. He was always a bit shy, so he was happy enough to officially settle for losing his license and keys for a few days, as his official, first level punishment. Except for one occasion, when you added lose of his phone to that, you've never had to go further.

Today, all three boys got in trouble together. You send Cliff to his room to get ready for a spanking, which is still standard for him, and you tell his two big brothers that they're losing their keys for three days.

Alex seems resigned, but Cliff and Brady simultaneously yell, 'That's not fair!'

So, what would be fair?

That's fine. Everyone can get age appropriate paddlings.

I think a little gentle corporal punishment is in order:

I'll go along with Katz. If they are all equally guilty of the same crime then I see good reason for the punishment to be the same.

K Club. Though my parents' response would have been "Life isn't fair". And then they'd have executed whatever sentence they'd already imposed. Not a terrible lesson to learn either.

Not sure what to say. Clearly I cant take Cliffs keys from him and for the other doing that seems more age appropriate, Does Cliff think his older brothers should be spanked. What we he lose if he were grounded. Does Brady think he'd prefer to be spanked rather than lose his keys. I think I stick to to the punishments as stated and can rationalise them all with the boys unless one of them persuades me otherwise. For Cliff though his insisting both his brothers take spankings just because he does is not a starter

I agree, not only is it fair but it eliminates the problem of not having the boys available for an errand!

ALL forms of grounding have more or less serious problems for a parent!
