ALGY IS WAITING
A Squarecutter Production

Your 6 year old son, Algy, got sent to his room after school today for kicking his twin sister during an argument over what to watch on tv. He went with very bad grace and slammed the door on his way out of the room after your spouse told him off. This is what greeted you when you came up to "talk" to Algy.

ALGY - 6 (With Teddy)

Teddy is his best friend when you have to punish Algy, who is no stranger to spanking.

How do you deal with Algy? Your spouse thinks he was very much in the wrong and that kicking his sister alone deserves to be treated very seriously indeed.

NEI (Not Enough Information).

Why was there an argument over what to watch on TV? How do he and his sister usually get along? What did she do? Why didn't my spouse handle the discipline if it's such an issue?

Based on what i know so far, I'm going to have an actual talk with him and Teddy about polite and respectful behavior, and the proper way to handle disagreements, and then I shall tickle him unmercifully.

I'm apprenticing him to a brutal master chimney sweep as a climbing boy...

That ought to satisfy my wife's desire for revenge and all...

I am not worried about Algy, but I am worried about his twin sister! Why did she not just hit or kick him back? What is she being taught?! The kids should have settled this before I ever heard about it!

Unless there is more to the story than a common sibling disagreement escalating to kicking, then Algy gets spanked. He needs to keep his hands and feet to himself.

The one thing I am NOT going to do is storm up to Algy's room, tell him violence is wrong and then proceed to spank him.

The incident happened on my spouses watch.  Is the present situation the result of a tearful tattle or did she witness it herself?  In any case the twins are only six so why didn't she deal with it herself for goodness sake?  I am not prepared to be the ogre my spouse calls on just because she doesn't have the bottle to deal with trivial disciplinary matters herself.

I'll ignore the tongue out gesture (his eyes and the rest of his facial expression don't imply insolence) and - talk; sympathetically.  I'll listen to his side of the story, deliver a brief homily on controlling his temper and release him unspanked from his prison.

If my spouse doesn't like it ........... TOUGH

Jack's answer and MM's answer got together and had a baby and that baby is my answer.

I will be sure to get past Algys defiant front and allow him to tell his story and then I will make a judgment on whether this can be resolved without spanking. Its possible it was the door slamming response was what finished him as far as his Mom was concerned. We will certainly be talking about controlling his temper and Algys history in this will be taken into accoung .Has their been an issue before and how well do the kis normally get on.
