Blast from the Past – 1889 – The Rowdy Boys
A Kat Production

You are the president of the 3-member school board of a small rural township. The school board has hired a young, inexperienced teenage girl to teach in the one-room schoolhouse. Miss Henderson does quite well with her younger charges, but once their father had brought in their crops, the Yates boys started coming to school: 16-year-old Adam and his fourteen-year-old twin brothers, Wyatt and Webster. The three are invariably late and invariably disruptive. Miss Henderson not only can’t control them but is actually afraid of them. After hearing of the misbehavior, you and the other board members approached Mr. Yates, whose attitude was unhelpful: “I pay my taxes and expect my boys to get an education. It’s up to the schoolmarm and the school board to handle what happens at school.”

How will you deal with the Yates boys?

If Mr. Yates thinks it's up to the school board to handle what happens at school, then I shall call the Yates' boys out and teach them a little tune.

Reading and writing and 'rithmetic,
taught to the tune of a hickory stick.

It's 1889 so we'll deal with it Victorian style...

I'll call the constable, and a judicial birching will follow in short order...

As this is Mississippi and education doesn't become compulsory until 1918, I shall just tell Mr Yates to make other arrangements for the education of his boys.
