Every Picture Tells A Story
An Ivor Production

Your eleven year old son Simon has been friends with Jason, who lives a couple of doors away, since forever. They are inseparable friends and each treat the others home as if it was their own as well as going everywhere together.

Last week they went on a school trip together and from what was said when they got back they both had a good time.

Today Jason's father comes round to see you. On one thing you have differed, Jason has been allowed to have a Facebook account but Simon hasn't. Jason's father gets you to go and look at Jason's page and brings up a picture that evidently Jason took while they were on the school trip last week.

He says that as both boys were involved in taking the photo he considers both are equally responsible and asks what action you think should be taken.

Both boys are no strangers to spankings which have in the past been applied by both fathers to both boys - hand to bare butt over the knee.

They need a brief talk about respecting other peoples' privacy and that they should have blocked or pixilated the lady’s face.

I’m surprised that they both are not in the picture since they have been friends forever.

I have to admit, I'm a bit confused about what action he wants me to take. This is the kind of stupid thing kids that age find funny - I'm sure i would have done the same thing. I mean, I'll be willing to give Simon a discussion reminding him that what you post on the net stays forever, but... I just don't see making a deal over this.

I'll go along with this.

Yep, I see it this way, too.

No need for me to take any special great action.

Action? No punishment, but a chat about the dangers of social media. It would probably be a good idea to close that Facebook account. Not for the picture but because, as Jack says, anything posted there probably stays forever, and the boys are not ready for that kind of responsibility.

Since Stevie is a heartless brute totally lacking in empathy, he'll flay the lad within an inch of his life and all...

I agree with Jack. This is normal behavior for kids, boys or girls, this age, and merits no punishment. A reminder that once on the net, it's forever, is the only action I'll take.

Agreed.

I'll be glad to have that conversation as soon as I stop laughing. This is harmless.

Since this was a school trip, I suspect all the pupils were lining up to take a similar photograph with the connivance of the teacher or at least a deliberate blind-eye being shown.

The school staff were in charge - if the other father wants to take up what he considers poor taste with the school, fine - but for me this is what I'd probably have done in similar circumstances and I can't get excited about it. Since my son isn't on the social network, I can use this as an example to him of the need to take care, however.

Reminds me of Toad Suck, Arkansas.  I attended a genealogical event once at Toad Suck Park near the Toad Suck Lock and Dam. Razz

Since he's asked I'll just smile at it and tell him "NONE"

It's just a funny photo, no doubt with lots of 'likes', and they are probably hoping it provokes a reaction from grown ups.

I agree with Jack . It cant pass without commentsalong the lines Jack suggests but it is as they say the sort of thing that amuses 11 year old boys. I dont know whether the young lady can have her face blanked. Is she a member of the group?but hopefully she will never get to find out the photo is even there. Jasons Dad will have to decide for himself whether the photographer is in more trouble than my little poser
