Cat -astrophe!
An Unknown Production

You have recently had occasion to remonstrate with your son, Chauncey, about teasing the family cat, Mr. Snookums, and on the last instance of disobedience, you threatened a good, bare bottom spanking if you caught him again.

Today, you hear a loud splash followed by frenzied feline fury coming from the back garden; you go out to the out to the pool and this is what you see:

Your ten year old son, Chauncey,  in the pool with Mr. Snookums.

Mr. Snookums is NOT AMUSED...

Does this episode merit the spanking?

It is time to trade Mr. Snookums for a nice pussy that would enjoy swimming with Chauncey.

Adric has an interesting report. There been confusion on this site before -- https://community.norton.com/en/forums/nortondns-blocking-deviantart-domains

In any case, the link is just to an image not a web page but being cautious is reasonable. I'll note that Norton does NOT flag other subdomains such as orig15.deviantart.net

Anyway here a different image.

While I suppose it is generally known by most adults that most house cats do not like to immerse themselves in water, I am not so sure that Chauncey is knowledgeable about this. I will need to question him very carefully to ascertain if he did, in fact, know this before he tossed the cat in the water. If he was not aware of this piece of lore about house cats, then I cannot hold him responsible for not knowing that.

However, if he did know that house cats don't like being immersed in water, then I will absolutely hold him responsible for putting the cat in the water. That being said, if he knew this and still tossed the cat in the water, then I will be extremely concerned, because cruelty to animals may be a harbinger of more serious psychological problems, and I will, in that case, be taking my boy to a professional child psychologist for a thorough evaluation before using corporal measures. I will make certain that I am not exacerbating a festering issue before using corporal punishment.

It is true that large cats may like an occasional dip in a pool of water, most house cats do not like such things.

It is interesting that I got the warning from Norton with Adric's post, and I no longer run any software by them. Strange that should happen....

A long time ago I was playing in a neighbor's back yard and I tossed a cat into their inflatable wading pool.  I don't remember if it was the neighbor's cat or just a cat that happened to be there at the time.  It came out of the pool very quickly and clawed several holes through the plastic as it went.  The pool slowly deflated and the water ran out.  I got a spanking.  Dad didn't bother to explain to me how much of it was for annoying a cat and how much for causing holes in the neighbor's pool.  I did know the cat wouldn't like it, but I didn't think about the potential for claw holes.  Looking back on it now, I think I deserved what I got.  (They didn't get me evaluated by a child psychologist.)

I'm think I need to investigate this more ... the could have fallen or maybe it had help .. I'm think they are getting help out with a few stingors applied and I will be letting him know that this is the final warning on this issue....

As for cats liking water well generally no but out of my five cats that we have I do have one that has been trained to like the our pool by my youngest who is now 11 .... they are best buddies and this cat will do just about anything this kid wants and just goes with it but only for her human....lol

On the basis that there is a history of teasing the cat then I reckon young Chauncey could well be in big trouble over this. However, before resorting to 'drying him off' I will give him the chance to convince me that  the cat  got into the pool by itself rather than with his assistance.

True story - I don't remember when this happened, but I think Barry was about 8 or 10. He decided that Rocky, our Maine Coon cat, would enjoy going down the water slide.

I heard the cat complaining, saw Barry, at the top of the slide, releasing the cat, and the cat went down, scrambling. Rocky hit the pool, came up, went for the sides, but couldn't make it, so he swam over to the steps.

As soon as I was sure Rocky was safe, Barry's swim trunks came down, he was tucked under my arm, and I gave him a pretty thorough smacking - right there in front of God, his brothers, and anyone else in the neighborhood.

About the time i finished, he was pulling up his trunks, and I was explaining about our responsibility to take care of our furred family members, we heard people start laughing. We looked, expecting to chew someone out for laughing at Barry getting spanked, only to see that Rocky was going back up the ladder again, so he could go down the slide by himself.

Barry has complained about that spanking for years.

Yeah, I still say it's justified because he had no way of knowing Rocky would like it, and no good reason for doing it. Maine Coon Cats are known for liking water, so Chauncey has even less excuse than Barry did. If Chauncey's lucky, I now have enough control to take him inside before wearing him out. If he's unlucky, I'll dry him off outside, then take him inside to even him out.

Like 18 Smacked I don't know if Chauncey knew Mr Snookums would react like this to immersion but NOW HE DOES. We will have another chat and I will seek to gauge whether Chauncey enjoyed the cat's discomfort or not. It has been established that many serial killers manifested signs first by acts of cruelty to animals but at the moment this needs monitoring and checking.Hard punishment may make things worse Does he bully other kids?
