Will You Be Spanking the Monkey and All?
A Stevie Production

This is your sixteen year old son, Bartholemew:

This is the T-shirt he ordered online from EBAY:

It is Monday morning and Bart has come down dressed in the T shirt which he obviously intends to wear to school...

You know that there is a rule about offensive T shirts at the school, but you're not really sure if it actually crosses that line and all...

Will you step back and let him find out for himself, or will you forbid him to wear the shirt?

Regardless of what you decided, you receive an email from the school later that morning informing you that Bart is being sent home for violating the policy and will be serving an in - school suspension tomorrow...

1. If I had allowed it: I will contact the school and explain that the error is mine and ask that Bart be excused from ISS.

2. If I had forbid it: Bart has defied me. He will serve the ISS and he will be on some serious restrictions for the next two days.

It would be interesting if Bart (and I) showed up at school with his pet wiener

and asked what wrong with the shirt.

It seems to me that the school has a prurient mind set.

Y.

P.S.  Of course, if Bart was advertising falsely that could be a different matter.

I would have said no to the shirt. It's not really offensive, but schools tend to over-police this sort of double entendre.

ISS seems a little ott for something like this. Usually schools just make the kid turn the t-shirt inside out. I think some punishment is in line for disobeying me.

I'd have said no to the shirt, even if we, in fact, have a dachshund. I also wouldn't allow FCUK branded clothing, if it's even still made.

Since I said no, and he showed up, he will receive some sort of punishment for disobedience (and stupidity). At 16, that's probably some sort of restriction rather than CP.

I'm with Kat on this one.

Does seem that he was asking for trouble to wear it to school. Put it back in the drawer son and save it until you get to college.

First of all, my boys are required (by me) to wear collared shirts to school, but maybe it's casual Friday.

"Barry, take a picture of Oscar with you, just in case, but they're probably going to say that shirt's offensive. Why don't you take another, so you can change if they do?"

I looked it up in our district policies, and there isn't a set consequence, but I think Kat has it pretty right. The only time I heard about ISS is when someone refused to correct the dress code violation, and that was only for the same day. I'd be wanting to talk to the principal on this and find out why the reaction.

Ditto And i think most schools would object

When I see the shirt I will tell him that I think he is taking a risk, and I will not be defending him if the school punishes him.  He gets to assess the risk and take his chances.  After that it is between him and the school.
