Failing Screening Merits Spanking?
An 18Smacked Production

It has been a while since the family has flown to see your parents; usually, they have come to see you. However, since the children's grandparents health began deteriorating, you finally felt that it was your obligation to go see them. This meant a cross-country airplane trip, and it would be the children's first commercial airplane flight. And, of course, this meant going through the infamous TSA screenings.  You did have to confess that you were very wary of the disruption in your parent's quiet life that your children would bring with their visit. Your parents liked a peaceful existence, and, well, sometimes your boys could be pretty noisy.

Here are your boys: Sam - 13, Brad - 10, & Terry - 12

When serious discipline is necessary, you bare their bottoms, and either use your hand, or a combination of your hand and a ping-pong paddle on the older two and a hairbrush with Brad, who could be a very mischievous lad. In an attempt to lay down the law before the trip, you had a meeting with your brood and you explained that the TSA security screening  at the airport was not any place for playing around. You pointed to a ninja sword, and said that things such as that, and the variety of other fake weapons had to be left at home. At the airport, you needed to get through the security screenings without issue, so you'd make your flights, and get to your destinations.

The two oldest boys and you passed through the metal detector without any problems, but sure enough, Brad tripped the sensor, and got patted down where a toy handgun and a small plastic knife were hidden on him, under his clothing. You were very upset by this, and told the TSA agent to just toss the toys into the trash bin. But, there was quite a kerfuffle at the security station over these items.

As you passed by a Men's Room on the way to the Departure Gate, you contemplated taking Brad inside for "a discussion," but you were already late and got to the gate just ten minutes before boarding started. When you sat down in the plane, you had Brad sit next to you, and you told him that you would discuss the issue of those toys later on.

The earliest opportunity that you had to get Brad alone with you was at O'Hare Airport, (you were making a mid-trip stop to Chicago's museums so the kids could see the dinosaur and other science exhibits) but there was too much activity for you to be able to "talk with" your son about this. So, by the time you got to your hotel, it was six hours later.

What sort of discussion will you have with Brad, and is it too late to make a serious statement with him about what happened in the screening?

I think being stopped by "the authorities" made the point. His earns will burn but not his rear.

You should have told the TSA that you have no idea who that boy is and that you suspect he's an adult midget Islamic terrorist... Brad looks as though he could be Semitic and all...

Problem solved and you have saved an immense amount of money on University tuition...

Well, both his toys went in the trashcan and he saw the unpleasantness at the gate so I think after all this time has passed it will be sufficient to deliver a final message through his ear and let it go at that. He probably had a hard time really believing that his benign toys would actually be interpreted as the weapons of a terrorist. Now he knows, so it had better not happen again.

I agree with Katz and Adric. Hopefully Brat has learned his lesson.

Well, I'll decide based on the chat I have with him. Why did he disregard my explicit instructions? If he truly didn't realize it would be a problem I'll just let it stand as it is. If he thought it would be a great joke, he'll get his bottom bared and spanked (unless he was very scared by the incident at the airport).

I agree with DB, this was direct disobedience that almost caused us to miss our flight. If six hours later is the first time we can deal with it, then that's what happened.

On the other hand, I am keeping in mind that he lost his toys, so I'm willing to stop at 'do you understand now that I know what I'm talking about, and that I have reasons when I tell you things?' He won't know it, but the right answer could save his bottom.
