No, you don't know how many times you've told him not to

He's been told repeatedly. The bed will need to be replaced. He isn't hurt, so the "natural consequences" haven't already taught the lesson. He's getting spanked.

If I explicitly told him not to jump on the bed he's getting spanked for the disobedience, not for the damage to the bed which I understand was not deliberate.

I'm with Kier and Daniel on this one - he's getting spanked!

Stevie is not going to punish the lad...

We'll carry out the broken bits to the trash and put his mattress on the floor; Stevie hopes the boy will soon get used to sleeping that way... cause he ain't getting a new bed for quite some time and all...

I agree with Kier and Daniel. I'll just get a piece of plywood to provide a foundation for the bed. It'll be fine.

Bouncing on beds is a given in a child's world.

I'm going to sue the manufacturers for producing such a dangerous flimsy, unfit for purpose, piece of furniture.  Fortunately  although my little darling was not physically injured in the incident he was SEVERELY TRAUMATISED.

PS.  Especially after the hairbrush had finished its work.

Talking to him didn't get the message through his head, so it's time to find out if the butt end is more receptive.

(Although I do think Stevie's suggestion has some merit.)

You know - I was posting this at the last moment and didn't really think about it, but I doubt you could bounce on a bed like this. Doesn't most of the bounce come from the box springs?

Anyway - he's been warned, now he sees why I told him to stop, so I think spanking is in order.

I actually like this approach. Having his mattress on the floor won't harm him and it is a good lesson in natural consequences.

I like this approach, having his mattress on the floor, too.
But I think a few additionally reminder smacks he will get.

Jack is right. There wouldn't be any bounce in this type of bed, because there are no springs.

MemoryMan is right. Bouncing on beds or sofas or anything with springs is natural for a boy.

Kat is right. Nothing that a piece of plywood or OSB board, and a couple of 1 X 3's can't repair.

So the damage isn't something all that great.

Unfortunately for the little guy, he did do what he knows he isn't supposed to do. I will be sure to show him the broken bed so he knows why he isn't supposed to jump on it. Then a short bare bottom hand spanking, followed by a hug to let him know he is still loved. After which, he will help me fix his bed, so he can learn how to repair what he breaks.
